KCHD offering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to young teens

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 36.1% of Tennessee population has received at least one dose.

TENNESSEE, USA — Tennessee leaders said teenagers ages 12 to 15 can now get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

It comes after approval from a CDC panel and FDA authorization for the age group this week.

The Knox County Health Department said it will also offer the Pfizer vaccine for people 12 and older starting Friday.

But one place you can't get the vaccine anymore is the East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

Hospital leaders said it's no longer offering it because vaccines are widely available in the community at places like pharmacies and grocery stores.

The federal advisory panel is expected to meet Wednesday, meaning shots could be given to many of the nation’s adolescents on Thursday.
