Where can I get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in East Tennessee?

Most pharmacy chains, clinics, and health departments are offering booster doses across Tennessee of all three vaccines.

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and FDA have authorized booster shots for all three COVID-19 vaccines for millions of Americans.

According to the CDC, 18 or older can choose either a Pfizer or Moderna booster six months after their second dose. For those who got the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the wait already was just two months.

You do not need to receive the same shot for your booster dose, though, because the FDA and CDC also authorized "mixing and matching" on October 21, which lets people choose which vaccine they want to receive for the booster dose -- as well as switch to a different vaccine if they had an allergic reaction the one they received.

So if you are eligible to get a booster shot, where can you get one?

In February, the Biden administration announced a partnership with 21 national pharmacies and networks to distribute vaccine doses. Those include CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger and other major pharmacy chains.

Of course, your doctor or local health department will also be able to help you get a booster shot like any other immunization.

Knox County Health Department

The Knox County Health Department said it is offering booster doses to those who qualify.

If you are eligible, you can schedule an appointment for a booster shot by calling the KCHD Public Information Line at 865-215-5555.

KCHD said you should bring your vaccination card to the appointment.

If you do not have your vaccination card, KCHD said its team members will look up your vaccination record before administering the booster dose.

KCHD said it recommends speaking with your primary care provider if you have questions about receiving the booster dose, as they will be most familiar with your medical history.

All other East Tennessee counties

The Tennessee Department of Health said it will begin offering COVID-19 booster doses at county health departments across the state starting Monday, October 25.

Appointments are recommended, but not required. You can find your local health department and sign up for an appointment at this link.

Walgreens

Walgreens said its pharmacies nationwide are already offering booster doses to eligible patients.

Patients who didn't receive their first two doses of the COVID vaccine at a Walgreens pharmacy will have to bring proof of their vaccination in order to be eligible for the booster shot.

Walmart & Sam's Club

Walmart and Sam's Club are also offering booster shots. Patients can get their booster shots either by appointment or just by walking in. Those eligible for the boosters can schedule on Walmart or Sam's Club's websites.

CVS

CVS is offering appointments for COVID-19 boosters on its website at this link.

Kroger

Kroger locations are already offering booster shot appointments on their booking website.
