MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Assistant Surgeon General was in the Mid-South Monday.

Rear Admiral Timothy Ricks was at UTHSC’s College of Dentistry.

Ricks oversees the dentists who serve in numerous federal agencies. Some of those include the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Health Service Corps, and others.

During his visit, he presented the Surgeon General’s report on oral health.

The Dean of UTHSC College of Dentistry, James Ragain, explained one of the key points.

“We have a drastic need not only in the country but also the state of Tennessee of access to care, particularly of the working poor in the counties in the metropolitan areas,” said Ragain.

UTHSC’s College of Dentistry provides care to underserved areas in the state, including here in the Bluff City.
