November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and thanks to a proclamation of Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland, November 21 was also Kosten Foundation Purple Day for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness.
According to the mayor’s proclamation, the Kosten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research was founded in 2003 by the family of Herb Kosten, a victim of pancreatic cancer, in an effort to improve community support, awareness, and funding for pancreatic cancer.
“I want them to think of those who unfortunately have passed away of this dreaded disease and have friends and family members, and also to know that right here in Memphis there’s a local organization, the Kosten Foundation, that’s providing hope and support to people who are sick, ” said Jeffrey Goldberg, President of the Kosten Foundation. “
The city of Memphis plans on illuminating Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in purple later this month.
