MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A wellness center featuringPilates, yoga, and mediation studios is opening soon on the UT Health ScienceCenter campus.
The 3,200 square foot space is currently under construction on thesecond floor of the Student-Alumni Center on campus.
The Mind-Body Wellness Center is in addition to UTHSC’s campusgym. Unlike traditional gyms, which offer limited classes in categories,sessions will be held all day. The center will be free for students, staff, andfaculty.
Kimberlee Strome, UTHSC Wellness and Yoga Director, said the aimis to help de-stress people working and studying in the medical field.
“It gives them an opportunity to chill out. They may have hada very stressful day, had an argument with someone, seeing a patient they’reworried about, and it just gives them an opportunity to de-stress and be morepresent,” Kimberlee Strome said.
Strome said the center will also feature a relaxing Zen lounge. Ifclasses aren’t in process, people can use free apps to meditate.
The wellness center expects to open in late fall/early winter.
