MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Friday is National Depression Screening Day.
Experts say 300 million people worldwide are living withdepression. More than 16 million Americans are affected by major depressivedisorder, which is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. for ages 15 to44.
But many people suffer in silence, unsure how to get help or afraid of the stigma surrounding mental health.
The Director of Behavioral Health at Saint Francis Healthcare saysdepression is more than just feeling down.
“People at various times in their lives will deal with differenttypes of depression throughout their lifetime. But we are talking about adepressive episode that may last longer than two weeks,” said Jason McCown.
