MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The newest hires for St. Jude were revealed Monday and had a“barking” good time with patients.
The children’s research hospital held a town hall to introduce itsPaws at Play facility dog program members – a golden doodle named “Huckleberry”and a golden retriever named “Puggle.”
The Paws at Play program helps distract patients from theirillness with these trained service dogs.
“They’re really here to help with the kids andthe families, to help distract the kids, you know, when they’re not feelingwell or are having a tough time, to provide them support during procedures,”said Dr. James Downing, CEO & President of St. Jude Children’s ResearchHospital.
Huckleberry and Puggle are certified service dogs thatwent through extensive training. They are official hospital employees who helppatients achieve specific goals.
They also wear green service vests and ID badges towork.
