The Shelby County Office of Preparedness is hosting a free shooter training over the weekend.

About two dozen people showed up for the first class Saturday.

There will be two more classes, Sunday at St. Lutheran Church and Monday at Hope Church.

One trainee from Saturday’s class told Local 24 he’s going to take what he learned and spread the information around to other churches in the area.

“I think it’s very important for us to position ourselves to sit in a class like this so that we will have the skills we need in case of an emergency, so we can communicate that hopefully to other churches as well to become involved and prepared in their congregations,” said Kent Hall, Pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

The Shelby County Office of Preparedness is offering this advice:

– Report suspicious behavior

– Take note of at least 2 exits, the location of security and first aid

– If you hear gunfire run, hide or fight
