MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)-Amateur radio clubs gathered in Germantown to showcase their science knowledgeand skills during their annual field day event Saturday.
Ham Radio, also known as amateur radio, is the use of electronicsand communications techniques that can be used during an emergency situation.
During this field day, people learned from radio lovers across thenation on ways to work the equipment reliably under any conditions.
Members of Neshoba, Delta, Mara and Tri-State amateur clubs allparticipated.
“The one thing we’re always saying is going to be the big event isan earthquake or something here in Memphis where communications would beimportant, but normal communications that we depend on will be unavailable,”said Steve Frazier, the President of Delta Amateur Radio Club.
More than 35,000 people from numerous locations participated lastyear.
There are more than 725,000 Ham radio-licensed operators in theUnited States.
