Arkansas State Trooper Kyle Sheldon was injured Sunday night when he was shot during a traffic stop at U.S. Highway 270 near Interstate 30 in Rockport, Arkansas in Hot Spring County. 

Trooper Sheldon is in stable condition.  His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

 

According to ASP, at 8:42 p.m. the suspect shot Trooper Sheldon when asked to get out of the vehicle during a traffic stop.

 

Officers of the Malvern Police Department were parked near Trooper Sheldon’s patrol vehicle.  Both had been in the in the area after answering a call unrelated to the traffic stop.  The officers returned fire as the suspect drove away in an older model Dodge pick-up truck.

 

The suspect, 49-year-old Elsbeth Tresa Kittinger, was taken into custody about five miles from the original scene after officers fired a second time at her.

Kittinger, who is from Fort Worth, Texas, was taken to a local hospital, treated and released to Garland County law enforcement.

  

The shooting is still under investigation.
