Artists and models upset with the City of Memphis’ efforts to paint over murals got together to digitally preserve the remaining art displays.

20 people met for a photoshoot near Willet and Lamar in Midtown Saturday.

This comes after city workers mistakenly covered several murals reportedly worth about $35,000. Two of the controversial murals that crews were supposed to cover up were left untouched.

Artists believe that’s a sign they should stay.

“Art is something that gives you emotion when you interact with it or some stuffed shirt goes through the trouble of criticizing it, so this qualifies art,” said photographer James Morgan Sr.

The murals covered by mistake were donated by artists as part of the Paint Memphis initiative to create the largest public art display in the state of Tennessee
