Babies At Baptist Go Red For American Heart Health Month

Newborn babies at Baptist Women’s and Children’s hospital went red Wednesday in honor of American heart health month.

Newborn babies at Baptist Women’s and Children’s hospital went red Wednesday in honor of American heart health month.

The Babies Go Red movement raises awareness among new parents about congenital heart defects. They affect about one in 100 newborns every year.

Experts say it’s important to remind parents heart disease can start at any age.

“You know, we’re the largest women’s hospital in the Mid-South; more deliveries, and more high-risk deliveries than any other place in the Mid-South. We see a fair number of these babies, and we have referral sources that we send these to,” says Kevin Hammeran, CEO of Baptist Women’s & Children’s Hospital.

Each baby wore a red beanie. The newborns’ moms also received a goodie bag with heart-healthy snacks
