A three-day building blitz is underway to celebrate a tremendous milestone for the Memphis Habitat for Humanity.
The organization not only marking its 35th anniversary but also building its 500th home. That home is one of 12 under construction in Oakhaven by sponsors and volunteers.
Habitat offers an affordable mortgage program to help first-time buyers build homes. Organizers say it’s all about helping families invest in themselves and the community.
“We work with our families, sometimes for up to a year preparing them for home ownership, helping them cleanup credit, and prepare for a mortgage,” says President/CEO for Memphis Habitat for Humanity Dwayne Spencer.
To cap off the anniversary celebration, Habitat will host its first-ever family reunion Sunday. It will honor more than 1,300 people who’ve worked to build homes throughout its 35 years.
