MEMPHIS, Tn. (localmemphis.com) — All month long, Memphis is May celebrated the city’s 200th birthday, and all that has built up to Saturday’s daylong festival, Celebrate Memphis.

Gates to Celebrate Memphis open at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Tom Lee Park.

With music and a day-long list of events, Celebrate Memphis is a way to pay tribute to the bicentennial while also bringing visitors and Memphians together.

To make sure no one is left behind, Memphis in May Vice-President of Marketing Robert Griffin said entrance to the festival is free.

“There is no admission, so there’s no reason not to come down. Find a great place to park. Come on down to the river. Bring a lawn chair. Bring a blanket to spread out, whatever you need to do, because this is going to be a great opportunity to have a celebration with your family on the river,” Griffin said.

Saturday, more than 20 musical acts will be spread across five stages. Griffin said, in addition to the music, there will be plenty to do there for the whole family.

Celebrate Memphis’s lineup includes a cornhole tournament, an air show, and an opportunity to be a part of breaking a world record at the world’s longest picnic table.

New this year, Griffin said outside food, drinks, and coolers are allowed inside the park.

“This year, for this event specifically, we are going to allow coolers to be brought in. We are going to allow picnic baskets to be brought in. So, if you have food insensitivities and aren’t sure what you can get at the concession stands, bring your food in,” he said.

The night will conclude with Memphis’ first public drone light show, set to music, and a 30-minute firework show. Griffin said the display will be the largest fireworks show the Mid-South has ever seen.
