Memphis Police say charges have been dismissed against an officer accused of misdemeanor theft in Millington.

54-year-old Wayne Jeffrey appeared in court Tuesday morning, where the charges were dropped. We have not yet found out why the charges were dismissed.

It all stemmed from an incident December 8th.  According to Millington Police, officers were called to Walmart for a reported shoplifter. As asset protection agent said he spotted Jeffrey concealing items, then headed out without paying. Jeffrey was stopped, and investigators say they found two memory cards and two wall chargers, valued at about $120 total.

Memphis Police say Jeffery was hired by MPD in August 2015 and is assigned to the Air Support Unit.

Jeffery has been relieved of duty as the investigation continues. Memphis Police have not yet said if he will be back at work since the charges were dismissed.
