A local community honored civic leaders by showing appreciation Sunday.
The Greater Community Temple COGIC Church hosted their annual Civic Appreciation Day, giving the community a chance to meet local government officials and pray for them.
One of the event’s organizers, Bishop Brandon B. Porter, explained why he hosts events like this one for our city leaders.
“Oh, it’s wonderful! It’s a wonderful thing for us to be able to give that kind of love and consideration to others. You know, so many times, we’re speaking political issues, but we never take time to say, ‘thank you’ to those who really have to give up their family time and themselves to cover us and to keep our city to be a nice place, and a place can grow up and have a good life.”
Mayor Jim Strickland and Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings were among the civic leaders in attendance.
