Collierville High School Unveils Landers SportsPlex

It’s called the Landers SportsPlex, and Local 24 was invited to take a first-hand look at the facility which was unveiled at Collierville High School Thursday morning.

Landers Auto Group scored naming rights to the facility as part of a ten-year agreement with Collierville Schools.

“Oh my gosh! I don’t even know how to describe what it means,” said Collierville Schools Superintendent, John Aitken.

CHS head football coach, Mike O’Neill added, “Oh wow, it means everything.”

It also has everything. Landers SportsPlex is a state-of-the-art facility where all athletic fields will be located.

“The opportunities here are limitless. And that’s what it’s designed for. It’s to serve the community so I’m really looking forward to how it functions,” Aitken said.

The five-thousand-seat football stadium features a jumbo Tron, like what you might see at NFL stadiums. The indoor training facility, which includes a turf practice field, is almost finished.

The Landers SportsPlex includes fields for baseball, softball, soccer, and Lacrosse. Plus, three gyms, an outdoor track, and tennis courts.

Aitken said, “The opportunity to build something like this is unprecedented.”

Landers Auto Group has the naming rights to the facility as part of a ten-year $500,000 agreement with Collierville Schools.

Don Kitchens of Landers Auto Group said, “The idea there is to have the school help the business community by training these kids because we need people. And in turn, the school needs funds.”

Sounds like a win-win. The first event at the Landers SportsPlex is Friday night at Collierville’s Homecoming game against Wooddale. Kickoff is at 7.
