Dozens of expectant parents received several resources on a healthy pregnancy at a free community baby shower Saturday.
The baby shower held at the Orange Mound Wellness Center covered topics of breastfeeding, birthing options and how to stay healthy during pregnancy and post-birth.
African American women are four times more likely to die during child birth or due to pregnancy related issues than white women.
“There’s so many benefits that fitness offers, especially as a pregnant woman. Pregnancy is very much a physical process, so being fit prepares you for the process; it alleviates high blood pressure, regulates your blood sugar levels,” said Guest Speaker Yvonne Parron.
Parents also got complimentary pre-natal chair massages and goodie bags.
