A Cordova woman faces charges after police say she tried to shoplift from the Target in east Memphis with two kids in tow, but left her purse behind.

Police were called to the Target on Colonial about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Police say the loss prevention manager reported a woman with two small children had a cart full of items that she didn’t pay for, and tried to push them past the registers and through the doors. The manager stopped her, and police say she tried to get past him, so he tried to arrest her for shoplifting.

At that point, police say she ran out of the doors with her two children, and into the Superlo Foods next door. But it turns out, she left her purse behind in the cart of items. The ID identified her as Lauren Burleson.

Officers located Burleson and her children in the Superlo, and she was arrested. Police say the items she tried to walk out with totaled more than $1,300.

Burleson is charged with theft of property, No bond was set and she was released on her own recognizance.
