Charged With Child Abuse

A Cordova woman is behind bars after her 2-month-old showed up at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital with a skull fracture and rib fractures.

According to the affidavit, Shelby County deputies were called to Le Bonheur about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. They say the little girl had been brought to the hospital with a skull fracture that evening. Deputies say the child had a skull fracture, multiple healing rib fractures, and broken right arm.

When mother Nancy Parks was asked how the girl was injured, she reportedly told deputies, “Violet fell off her bed in mid-July and that had to be the reason for the injuries.” Deputies say Parks told them that Sunday morning, she had picked the little girl up by her right arm when she was crying and possibly dislocated her shoulder. She had taken the child to Methodist Germantown, who referred them to Le Bonheur.

While interviewing Parks about the child abuse allegations, investigators say she admitted that when she’s tired, she becomes frustrated with the girl and squeezes her, and had slammed her into her crib, hitting the side of her head. They say Parks advised she would like to get help.

Parks is charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect. Her bond is set at $200,000 and she is due in court Tuesday.
