“She doesn’t want to go back next year. She definitely doesn’t want to go back this year,” said father Destin Bobbitt. “I don’t know. It might be something that we look at further down the line. I guess with time, memories fade.”
Bobbitt and his 9-year-old daughter Madi were at the Delta Fair when bullets went flying. They tried to run to safety like several families. Norman Frisbie and his wife Laura were also caught in the stampede. She was knocked down, cracking her skull.
“She turned around, and there was a crowd of people rushing there,” said Frisbie. “She got knocked down and hit her head on the concrete there, and her head started bleeding.”
The Delta Fair initially posted on social media, fireworks were set off as a prank, sparking outrage online by people who heard the gunfire. It turns out there were two incidents. The fireworks happened about five minutes before the shooting Saturday night. Organizers are now ramping up security buying more security wands and adding extra personnel.
“They did have a lot of sheriffs that are in go-karts patrolling the area, and they’re also checking bags as people go in. “
Parents who brought children on Labor Day want their safety to be number one.
“You have a lot of small children as well as up to adults and people that are in wheelchairs and probably people that can’t get out fast enough,” said mother Maleka McCray. “So you need to make sure it’s safe for everyone coming to enjoy it.”
