The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department says Horn Lake Police have detained an individual associated with threatening social media posts.
The sheriff’s office, Horn Lake Police , and school officials took precautions Tuesday, beefing up the law enforcement presence at the Horn Lake High Tuesday.
The following was posted to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page regarding the threats:
The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Dept., Horn Lake Police Dept., and school officials have been notified about threatening social media posts. We always take precautions and treat things like this seriously.
This morning and throughout the day, you will see a heavier law enforcement presence at Horn Lake High School. We want you to feel safe in this county and know that we are protecting your children. The investigation is still ongoing.
DeSoto County Schools released the following statement:
Horn Lake High School administrators contacted local law enforcement officials last night concerning a threatening social media post that had been shared via Snapchat. The Horn Lake Police Department and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department worked with school and district officials during the overnight hours to ensure the safety of students and staff. Because all matters regarding the safety of our students are treated with the utmost importance, there will be an increased police presence on campus today.
Parents were contacted via email prior to 6 a.m.
