Holly Bobo Case Focus of 20/20

It was one week ago when Zach Adams was convicted in the kidnapping, rape, and murder of nursing student Holly Bobo. He could have received the death penalty, but instead, he got life in prison without parole.

“As a mother, my heart breaks for Karen Bobo. Interviewing her was a tremendously emotional and difficult experience in many ways,” said 20/20 Anchor Elizabeth Vargas.

Friday night, ABC’s 20/20 aired a special broadcast on Holly Bobo’s story, exploring all the twists and turns since she went missing October 2011, sharing never before seen video of police interrogating sessions, and hearing exclusively from Clint Bobo on being questioned as a suspect.

Before the special broadcast aired Vargas talked with Local24 news and revealed what she thinks makes this story unique.

“I don’t think I covered the case quite like this where there is no forensic evidence. There are no fingerprints. There’s no DNA. There’s no hair. The only blood that’s found is found in the Bobo’s carport and the entire case rests on the testimony of a convicted felon and there were a string of witnesses testifying for the prosecution you were all wearing prison jumpsuits. That’s unusual,” said Vargas.

Vargas said one of the most extraordinary parts is how this crime came out of such a small town, so small Karen Bobo once taught Zach and Dylan Adams when they were children.

“She says according to Karen, unearthed this whole underworld that they didn’t know existed and it’s kind of frightening to think about,” said Vargas.

Two other men were charged in the Holly Bobo case. They will be in court in November.
