MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — A solemn evening at the Memphis Botanic Garden as families gathered in memory of homicide victims.
For the past 14 years, each new family is greeted with the memory quilt that includes the names and faces of loved ones.
Linda Chevellier’s daughter Sherry Lynn Leahy was killed 18 years ago, the day before the tragedy of 9-11. It’s just one factor Linda blames for her daughter’s murder going unsolved.
“She was very energetic, very outgoing. Loved to dance, loved animals,” said Linda. “Came home one day and there was a scarf on my back porch I opened it up. It was a baby squirrel that had fell out of the tree. She had to go to work but left a note that said take care of it mama.”
Families at the Memphis Botanic Garden tonight were not there only looking for support. Many like Linda came hoping for new information that will help catch their loved one’s killer.
