It’s been one month, and Puerto Rico continues to experience widespread impacts from Hurricane Maria. Help has come from all over the world, including Memphis-based FedEx.
Much of the island is still in the dark. The storm destroyed buildings and caused terrible flooding. More than 40 people have been confirmed dead.
The response from FedEx was almost immediate as a part of their ‘delivering for good’ initiative. Partners with FedEx such as the American Red Cross and Heart to Heart have donated supplies for FedEx to load up and deliver overseas.
Some agencies have had trouble getting into Puerto Rico due widespread flooding. That’s one reason why FedEx is so thrilled they have these planes so they can fly over the wreckage and get straight to the victims.
FedEx says this operation is definitely a team effort.
“It is an all-hands-on deck effort. From our operations teams who are helping with the non-profits in getting these materials together and palatalized, to trucking these items to Memphis and Miami, and then working with our loaders and operators. We also have pilots who are volunteering their time to fly in,” says Neil Gibson, FedEx VP of Corporate Communications.
FedEx isn’t looking for private donations. However, if you’d like to give, they ask you give to organizations such as the American Red Cross.
