Four new hepatitis A cases in Shelby County

The Tennessee Department of Health says there's been an increase in hepatitis A cases across the state.

SHELBY CO., Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — The Tennessee Department of Health says there’s been an increase in hepatitis A cases across the state.

In Memphis, the Shelby County Health Department says they are currently investigating four new cases.

Dr. Helen Morrow says there are three groups of people who are at most risk with this strain of the virus.

“The homeless, people who have been incarcerated, or recreational drug users. Recreational drugs users can include somebody that just smokes marijuana,” Dr. Morrow said.

People who believe they may be at risk can get a free vaccine at the Shelby County Health Department.
