MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis) — In local good news, four organizations were honored for their work to uplift the community.
The Memphis branch of the NAACP joined the New Tri-State Defender and Kroger to create a new grant program called “Uplift the Community.”
Each of the four groups honored received a $7,500 check for their role in improving the community as well as decreasing blight and crime.
“We know from social science and our daily work at Safeways, that blight and crime go hand in hand. Disorder invites disorder. Issues such as graffiti, dumping, and litter, in our experience, have a profound effect on our community.”
The four non-profits honored Thursday were “Building Blocks Mentoring Program, ” “Families Matter, Inc.,” “Safeways Incorporated,” and “East Trigg Strong Towers, Staying Power.”
