A West Tennessee man has been indicted on first-degree murder and other charges related to the shooting death last year of a 22-year-old woman at her East Memphis apartment, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.

Jason Chase Riley, 29, of Friendship, Tenn., also was indicted on felony charges of tampering with evidence, filing a false offense report and extortion. He is being held on $700,000 bond.

The victim, Hollie Adcock, was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head on April 9, 2017, at her apartment in the 800 block of Thistledown Drive near Park and South Perkins. Riley notified police and said she had shot herself.

Investigators said, however, that evidence indicated the scene appeared to have been staged and that Riley had handled the gun. They said there also was evidence that Riley had made numerous voicemails, texts and phone calls threatening her if she broke up with him.

The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Paul Hagerman and Asst. Dist. Atty. Chris Lareau, both of the DA’s Crime Strategies Prosecution Unit which incorporates and expands the work of the Multi-Agency Gang Unit, the Organized Crime Unit, Project Safe Neighborhood/Gundone, GunStat, the Safe Streets Task Force and the Violent Crime Unit.
