CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark.(localmemphis.com) – Homes and yards are prone to flooding during the summermonths, so the Crittenden County Road Department is offering free sandbags toprevent flooding.

D.C. Armstrong is anemployee for the road department and said there have been families who willbarricade their homes with sandbags to prevent flooding.

“Because of all therain we had this spring and summer, it’s just an unusual amount of water andthe people that have needed the bags have been flooded two or threetimes,” Armstrong said.

Crittenden County JudgeWoody Wheeless said on Facebook that the all people need to bring is a shoveland the road department will provide the sand and bags.

Armstrong said some peopletook 45 to 60 sandbags home with them to cover their garage doors and doors totheir homes.

The road department willbe offering the free sandbags throughout the rest of the season for anyone whoneeds them.
