Hope Works opens new facility on Summer Avenue

A Mid-South nonprofit is hoping to reach more of the community with the grand opening of its newest location. Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland cut the ribbon Thursday morning on the new Hope Works facility on Summer Avenue.

Hope Works helps people earn their high school equivalency diplomas. It also has a prison ministry, helping inmates learn needed skills to find jobs after their release.

Mayor Strickland says the organization plays a crucial role to the community.

“Hope Works works,” he says. “Hope Works works with people getting out jail, gives them counseling, job training, then gets them a job. The data shows they’ve been remarkably successful in giving people who want a second chance, a second chance.”

Officials says Hope Works helps about 200 people every year.
