LML: ORGAN TRANSPLANT FOR ELENA

A Germantown family is holding on to hope. Their little girl, who celebrated being 14-months-old Tuesday, will need a lifesaving transplant soon.

Local Memphis Live host Amy Speropoulos sat down with the family Tuesday morning: Mom, dad and little Elena.

Her mom, Suzanne Liriano, tells us she knew something was wrong when she was 30 weeks pregnant. Once Elena was born, her lungs were great. But her kidneys weren’t working.

Every night, Elena goes through a 10-hour long kidney dialysis while she’s sleeping. Once she weighs 22 pounds, doctors say a kidney transplant is un-avoidable.

Little Elena’s parents say she’s a fighter.

“We’ve been really fortunate that she’s developmentally normal. As you can see, she’s energetic and social and happy and learning to crawl, so we’re really grateful for all those characteristics that make her strong and make her a fighter,” says Suzanne.

Friends and family have set something up with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association to help kids and families like Elena’s. CLICK HERE to learn more.
