Football Rivals Celebrate Camaraderie With Egg Bowl Run

Football Rivals are running to a different beat today.  The Ole Miss and Mississippi State fans are putting their differences aside for the greater good.  It’s Local Good News.

Rivals are hitting the streets. Mississippi State and Ole Miss Army ROTC Cadets are taking their rivalry to the pavement.  It’s the 4th Annual Egg Bowl Run.

“It hurts. It hurts, but I’m going to give you the ball. Don’t loose it. It’s kind of important. We ran it fifty-eight miles,” said MSU ROTC Cadet Caleb Law as he handed the ball over to Ole Miss mascot.

The cadets met at the halfway point of Calhoun City, Mississippi to exchange a signed game ball that is carried from Starkville to Oxford, Mississippi.

“I’m excited to have something like the Egg Bowl Run that can really unite two schools. It’s a time honored rivalry and tradition,” said Ole Miss ROTC Cadet Jonathan Dotson.

This is not your average run.  It’s special.  These Army ROTC Cadets are using their run to show their leadership skills.  And, the run was started as a way not just to show athletic and military abilities, but to build community support and celebrate the camaraderie of serving together.

“When we’re in combat in a tough situation, the school we’re from that seems like a big deal now, it really isn’t that big of a deal. We’re brothers and sisters in something that’s bigger than our schools. It’s really awesome,” said Law.

The Ole Miss Cadets will carry the game ball onto the field during the MSU – Ole Miss Egg Bowl Game Saturday.
