Local Good News: Local Woman Helps People Fighting Cancer

A local woman is trying to boost the confidence and self-esteem of people fighting cancer. She’s created several products to help them. Tiffany Smith is trying to create a Princess Pamper Party for the patients at St. Jude Children’s Hospital as well as the Ronald McDonald House. Local 24 Anchor Katina Rankin shows us how Tiffany is giving back to the community.

Wigs, they come in all colors, shapes, cuts: straight, curly, ponytails! And, they are more than just for cosmetic purposes.

“What I do is I fit and fabricate medical-laced wigs for cancer patients, as well as burn victims and alopecia patients,” said TSR Prosthetics Tiffany Smith.

But at TSR Prosthetics, these “units” as they are termed, are custom-made for their clients.

Check out Kariesha Hubbard. She wanted to talk to us but was undergoing treatment out-of-state the day we did the interview. She did share this message. “Being a chemo patient can make anyone insecure, especially after losing your hair. I wanted a unit that would be comfortable as well as natural looking. That’s a hard combination to find lol. I’m so thankful I’ve found both.”

“We kind of figure out what’s comfortable for them or what type of look their looking for, what type of volume, color, texture they would like the prosthetic,” said Smith.

For Janice Duncan whose hair was thinning, it’s a confidence booster.

“I was experiencing some really bad thinning; especially around my edges, and my hair had extremely bad breakage,” said TSR Client Janice Duncan.

“It’s so much more than a hairstyle. You’re kind of reinforcing their confidence. You’re kind of reinforcing who they are used to seeing in the mirror,” said Smith.

“Look into whatever makes you feel beautiful and gives you that boost, that confidence throughout your day, that’s what you should do,” said Duncan.

And making children and women who are going through a tough time feel beautiful is local good news.
