A young girl suffering from cancer recently met her ‘knight in shining armor’ and became the Belle of the Ball when he took her to his prom. It’s local good news.
Meet Ales Dostal. He’s a senior at Marion High School in Arkansas. He’s proving he can exceed far beyond the classroom.
He created his own castle and indeed turned into a knight in shining armor. He made a wish come true for Abi Blankenship, a 10-year-old girl suffering from cancer.
“Abi Blankenship was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, which is a terrible cancer for a child; especially her age to get, leaving her with roughly an 8% chance of her to make it any longer than 5 years,” said Dostal.
He mounted his horse, so to speak, and began a gallant journey. He got permission from both his parents and Abi’s mother to take her to his senior prom. Once permission was granted, he approached the principal to see if he could make the night magical for Abi.
“Really, put whatever effort we had into making that night better for her than ourselves even — because I wanted it to more than anything be the best night ever that she’s had,” said Dostal.
He built her a small cardboard castle filled with flowers and Abi’s favorite candy. And… wait for it… then came a very charming question: “You’re the cutest princess of them all, so would you be my date to the ball?” Abi accepted of course.
A local country singer wrote a song specifically for Abi that night called, “Fight On.” Abi even got a special mention at the prom and was officially crowed Prom Princess.
“Everybody loves Abi. She’s a great kid, always smiling no matter what,” said Dostal. “There is no way that I could have not done it.”
And because of Ales’ kind gesture of making Abi’s fairytale come true, we’re crowning him Sir Ales. It’s local good news.
