Emmett Till sign in Mississippi will be replaced with steel bulletproof sign

The new sign marking the spot in Mississippi where the body of Emmett Till was found in 1955 will be bulletproof and made of steel.

(localmemphis.com) – The new sign marking the spot in Mississippi where the body of EmmettTill was found in 1955 will be bulletproof and made of steel.

Till was 14-years-old when he was tortured and killed afteraccusations that he flirted with a white woman. His death became an importantcatalyst in the Civil Rights movement.

The new sign will be steel and covered with one-inch of bulletresistant plastic. That’s important because it has been shot multiple times, thrownin the nearby Tallahatchie River, spray-painted, and defaced with acid.

Earlier this week, a photo emerged showing three white Universityof Mississippi students posing with guns in front of the bullet-riddled sign. Allthree men have been suspended from their Ole Miss fraternity.
