A local lawmaker wants to speed up the release of early voting results in Tennessee. State Senator Brian Kelsey of Cordova has filed bi-partisan legislation to bring consistency to the law.

Right now, early and absentee voting results may not be released until all polls have closed in the county and every voter has voted, which normally is around 8 p.m. in Shelby County.

Kelsey argues the definition of poll closure is interpreted differently across the state, with many other counties releasing those results right at 7:01 p.m.
