LOUDON, Tenn. (AP) — Officials of Loudon, Tennessee, have recovered evidence from a historic courthouse that caught on fire this week.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Mayor Rollen Bradshaw, District Attorney General Russell Johnson, Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider and others entered the county courthouse Thursday to grab documents needed for court Monday. Officials said nobody was allowed in the building until a structural engineer deemed it safe, but Johnson said there wasn’t time to wait.
He said the evidence needed to be secured and protected as soon as possible so ongoing cases wouldn’t be endangered. The evidence, including murder weapons, was stashed in a first-floor vault and appeared to be intact.
Recovered evidence was cataloged and moved to the old Loudon City Hall building, where some court services will be held next week.
