NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee is holding events tocelebrate the 99th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, whichushered in women’s right to vote.
Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, the Tennessee StateMuseum and the Tennessee State Library and Archives are collaborating on eventsFriday and Saturday in Nashville.
Congress passed the 19th Amendment in June 1919. Three-fourths of state legislatures were required to ratify the amendment for its nationwide adoption. Tennessee became the 36th and final state needed for ratification in August 1920.
The park and museum will feature living history programs andhands-on activities. Historians will depict stories related to the women’ssuffrage movement at the park.
Keeping with Tennessee’s “Perfect 36” nickname,the Tennessee State Parks Run Club will host the Perfect 3.6 Race forRatification on Saturday.
