Local students honor first responders on 9/11 with gift baskets & breakfast

Students at St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School made special deliveries for area first responders Wednesday morning to show their appreciation for their service.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Students at St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School made specialdeliveries for area first responders Wednesday morning to show theirappreciation for their service.

The students filled baskets with coffee, cookies, chips, candy,and other treats to deliver to police and fire stations as well as the 911 callcenter. The baskets were also blessed during morning mass.

Administrators spoke about how even though most of the kids givingback weren’t even alive during the terror attacks, they still felt andunderstood the importance of this day.

“That’s one of the most challenging things forthem to get their minds around. But there is a universal theme of gratitudethat no matter what age they are or when an event may have taken place, thatthey can completely understand that concept of giving back and being gratefulfor people who are there in our most dire times of need,” said St. AgnesPrincipal Kathy Boccia.

This is the 17th year students have participated in this service activity to honor these men and women.

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School also honored firstresponders with a breakfast to show appreciation for all they do. Thestudents made cards and presented them to the first responders along with asmall token of appreciation.
