A 37-year-old man was indicted Tuesday on first-degree murder charges stemming from the shooting of an acquaintance during an argument two years ago, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

Michael Dorsey, 37, is accused of killing 45-year-old William Powell on the night of Nov. 21, 2016, after an argument broke out at Dorsey’s home in the 6500 block of Lake Valley Drive in southeast Shelby County near East Shelby Drive and Crumpler Road.

A witness said Dorsey pulled a gun and told Powell to leave the residence. The two men exited the residence through the garage door and Powell got to the driveway Dorsey began shooting.

Powell died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Dorsey is being held without bond.

The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Glen Baity.
