MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Memphis Animal Services say they are desperate for help after removing 40 dogs in an animal cruelty case.

MAS tells Local 24 News the 40 dogs were taken from a home near Zelda and Waring. They say the animals were in “horrific” conditions.

The problem: MAS had only four open kennels when the dogs were seized. MAS officials say they could not leave the dogs in the home in good conscience, so staff worked overtime to try to prepare the shelter for the influx of animals.

They are trying to avoid euthanizing, and to do that, MAS needs people to foster or adopt current-resident dogs, so there are more kennels available for the dogs that were taken in from the home. They say even fostering for a few days or weeks is a help.

And currently, adoptions remain only $19 through Sunday.
