Homicide at Golden Jewelers

A jewelry store worker is dead after a robber killed him at a Hickory Hill shopping center and took off. Police have identified the victim as a store employee, 42-year-old Noah Ashene.

It happened a little after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Golden Jewelers store in the 6500 block of Winchester, off of Kirby Parkway.

Local 24 learned a one-year-old, believed to be the victim’s child, was the only other person inside the store when the violent crime occurred.

Authorities said a robber, wearing a mask, either stabbed or shot the jewelry worker and took off.

Police are doing an inventory check to see what, if any, items were stolen.

Investigators are also reviewing surveillance footage in the hopes of getting a better description of that suspect.

Police had this message a short while ago.

“Just be aware of your surroundings, businesses, I recommend, we recommend that more than one person be working in a store, or any kind of location, to the best of my knowledge, there was only one individual in this store at the time,” Memphis Police Col. Marcus Worthy.

This is the city of Memphis’ 27th homicide of 2017. That’s slightly less than the total this same day in 2016. Last year, the city of Memphis set a new record for homicides in a calendar year with 228.

No one is in custody. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
