MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- The Liberty Bowl stadium erupted with cheers as the Memphis football team won the AAC championship on Saturday.
Fans packed Tiger Lane leading up to the game and said this was the most memorable season in Memphis football history.
Gerald McHenry said this season was the most exciting. Since his daughter joined the University of Memphis cheer leading team, he’s been a fan that loves to attend every game to cheer the team on.
“It’s the season people are going to remember forever,” McHenry said. “It’s one of Memphis’ best seasons ever.”
McHenry said the fans are one of the best parts of these games because they are loyal through it all.
“They don’t give up,” McHenry said. “They keep coming back. For four years I was sitting in the same seat. Those people show up every game.”
Eddie Moore is a former Memphis football player and said he and his former teammates are prideful of what the team and Coach Norvell accomplished this season.
“We’re really proud of the young men for what they’ve done unbelievably well,” Moore said.
Moore said this team has worked hard for what they have earned and he looks forward to the future of the football program.
“It’s a dream come true for the city, it’s a dream come true for the program,” Moore said.
