MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Memphis Zoo teamed up with the University of Memphis tocelebrate Global Tiger Day Monday.
Anyone wearing Memphis Tigers colors could enjoy the day at thezoo for $9.01.
Tigers are considered an endangered species. As few as 3200 areleft in the wild.
Global Tiger Day is all about raising awareness of theconservation needs for the big cats.
“The biggest threat to these guys is losing theirhabitat. We want to protect where they live so that there’s space for them tolive, essentially,” said Memphis Zoo cat keeper Shelby Handley.
