A school threat that had Mid-South schools on alert Monday is a good reminder at how quickly things can escalate on social media.
Memphis Police said they were investigating after an Instagram photo was circulating, claiming shots would be fired at a school, labeled as CHS. Extra precautions were taken at all “CHS” schools in the area, including Central, Cordova, and Collierville.
Memphis Police say they have found the threat is not credible, and actually originated out of New Mexico, where and arrest has been made.
Local 24 spoke with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office as well. Spokesperson Earle Ferrell said that students and parents should be aware that sharing such a post can lead to charges of being an accessory, and possible expulsion. Law enforcement should be contacted if you see such a post.
