UPDATE: A Mid-South family frantically looking for a missing teen.

Police say 18-year-old Malynda Townsend has been found and is now home safe.

Townsend went missing from southeast Memphis Tuesday.

Memphis police say her roommate Kimuana Butler told investigators Townsend called her and said she had been kidnapped during a trip to the store.

Police say Butler later told investigators that story wasn’t true.

She was charged with reporting false information.

Townsend finally showed up safe and sound at her home Wednesday evening.

Memphis Police are still looking for a missing teen who was originally reportedly to have been kidnapped when she went to the grocery store. They now say she is still missing, but she wasn’t kidnapped, and another woman has been charged with filing a false report.

18-year-old Malynda Townsend was last seen around 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1900 block of Asa Dr. in southeast Memphis. According to MPD, Townsend went to the grocery store, but, never returned home. Police say Kimuana Butler told investigators she received a phone call from Malynda, saying she had been grabbed.

Investigators say Butler later admitted to lying, and she has now been arrested and charged with filing a false report.

Townsend is 5’6″, 100 lbs, medium complexion with her hair in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing black glasses with mint green handles, a black and white striped sweater, black tights, and brown snow boots. Police say she may be in a red Cadillac CTS with Texas tags.
