MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – More than two dozen mayors from the length of the MississippiRiver are in Memphis this week for their annual meeting.
The mayors are part of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative, a mayoral-led effort to create a voice for the Mississippi River.
Wednesday, the mayors announced a new partnership with RotaryInternational to link rotary clubs to city halls to work on waterinfrastructure.
Former United Nations Ambassador and friend of Dr. Martin LutherKing, Andrew Young, is the reason behind the partnership.
“We’re trying to think about things in new ways, and we’re trying to transform this nation politically, emotionally, andmorally, and these mayors and Rotarians are really at the heart of makingAmerica truly great,” said Young.
40% of our U.S. trade comes down the MississippiRiver. The river is also a valuable resource for fresh water.
