MLK50: ServiceMaster Volunteers Clean Up Route Of Dr. King’s 1968 March

The route of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s final march is much cleaner thanks to a group of about 1,300 volunteers.

ServiceMaster employees dedicated the day to planting greenery on Main Street, cleaning up park benches in Civic Center Plaza, and painting murals along South Main.

King led the march from the historic Clayborn Temple to Memphis City Hall during the 1968 sanitation strike.

Organizers say it’s a privilege to take part in this historic MLK50 celebration.

“To have a chance to work on the area that was used for the march and be able to beautify and bring it to life again, it’s very special to me and I think it was a very special day for us as a country,” said Steve Hochhauser, the interim President of American Home Shield.
