MPD Asking For Tips In Thanksgiving Cold Case Murder

It’s been nearly three months and Memphis Police are still no closer to finding the person or persons responsible for killing 68-year-old Robert Wong on November 23, 2017.

Investigators said Thursday the Thanksgiving murder has zero leads.

“To this day,” said Major Lambert Ross, “we’ve received one tip. One.” Memphis Police said that tip turned up empty.

Police say Wong was shot sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at his home in the 4100 block of Cochese. Investigators say Wong’s family had left for about two hours to get brunch.

“The last thing he said was, ‘Just bring back my favorite,'” recalled Ross.

Police say Wong asked for his favorite meal, dim sum.

“The family had a tradition on Thankskgiving,” said Ross. “They would get Chinese.”

Local 24 learned Wong stayed behind because he’d been battling cancer for the past year.

“Mr. Wong was a military vet,” said Ross. “He was married for 45 years. He has a daughter and two grandchildren.”

Investigators say the suspect or suspects responsible stole Wong’s blue Honda Odyssey minivan.

Police said they found items from the missing 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan the next day, Friday, Nov. 24, in the Fox Hollow Town homes. The minivan was found abandoned later that day in the 5500 block of Crepe Myrtle, with considerable damage.
