MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- In honor of World Aids Day Sunday, one facility opened its first free community based clinic in Cooper-Young.
Friends for Life Facility ‘The Corner’ aims to combat HIV in Memphis.
The Memphis-area ranks 8th in the nation for new HIV infection rates. HIV is a virus that causes AIDS.
‘The Corner’ hopes to reduce new infections locally by providing two prevention drugs and screenings for free with no insurance necessary.
The clinic will give Shelby County residents easier access to a tool that could fend off the 200 new infections that we have each year.
“We’re just really proud to be able to be trailblazers for this here in the Mid-South in an effort to really end the epidemic,” said Eric Paul Leue.
Shelby County is actually one of the targeted areas in need for President Trump’s “Ending The HIV Epidemic Plan.”
